Crowns

A crown is a type of dental restoration which completely caps or encircles a tooth or dental implant. Crowns are often needed when a large cavity threatens the ongoing health of a tooth. Dental crowns may also be required in the following situations:

• To restore an already broken tooth or a tooth which has been severely worn down.
• To cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn’t a lot of tooth left.
• To hold a dental bridge in place.
• To cover misshaped or severely discolored teeth

Permanent crowns, when cemented into place, fully encase the entire visible portion of a tooth which lies at and above the gumline. Dr. Cushman’s crowns are generally made from either all ceramic or porcelain-fused-to-metal material.
