Q: At what age should my child start seeing the dentist?

A: Our office treats children of all ages the recommended age for a child's first visit is 2 years old. An early visit to the dentist is a good way to learn good oral hygiene and help the child to be comfortable with seeing the dentist, also to make sure your child is getting enough fluoride, and check for any early signs your child may have with their teeth.

Q: Do I need x-rays taken for my dental appointment?

A: Decay often forms between the teeth where it is never visible to an examining dentist or hygienist and this often is where problems start. However, it is visible on an x-ray. We do suggest x-rays during your routine hygiene appointments and we do require them often during any problems the patient is having for proper diagnosis. Dr. Cushman has also installed a digital x-ray system into the office, which requires less radiation, less exposure time, and has advanced computer images.
